Students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, kidnapped last Friday have been freed, according to the state government.
The Special Adviser to the Katsina Governor, Ibrahim Kastina, confirmed the release of the students to The PUNCH.
He said the students were at Tsafe (82.5km via road) from Kankara town in Katsina.
“Alhamdulillah. The boys have been rescued and are now at Tsafe, Zamfara State. But, we shall be moving them to Kankara tomorrow (Friday),” Kastina said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Masari said the abducted students were taken to a forest in Zamfara State.
He, however, refuted the allegation that the students were kidnapped by Boko Haram.
The PUNCH learnt that about 340 students were released on Thursday.
Speaking to The PUNCH, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Usman Nagogo, said the schoolboys would be handed over to Katsina State Government soon.
He, however, maintained that all the schoolboys were looking healthy, adding that none ọf them complained of any ailment.
“The boys are healthy but looking very tired, we will hand them over to their state as soon as possible,” the CP said.
