Fresh Headache For Obidents As Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka Reveals The Position Peter Obi Took In The Last Election

Renowned Nigerian playwright and Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, has once again voiced his perspective on the 2023 general elections, particularly regarding Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate

Earlier this year, Soyinka faced backlash from supporters of Obi for his controversial remarks. He compared them to “fascists” and hinted that they played roles similar to coup plotters in the period leading up to President Tinubu’s swearing-in. However, in a surprising turn of events, Soyinka has now highlighted some positive aspects of Obi’s campaign.

In a recent interview, Soyinka said, “Peter Obi achieved something remarkable in the 2023 elections.” He elaborated that Obi was instrumental in “breaking the mould”, referring to the significant disruption of Nigeria’s established two-party system.

However, Soyinka was quick to clarify that, despite these accomplishments, Peter Obi did not emerge victorious in the elections. He stated unequivocally, “I can say categorically that Peter Obi’s party came third, not even second.

Soyinka further criticized the leadership of Obi’s party, suggesting that they tried to mask the real outcomes through a practice known as “Gbajue”, which translates to leveraging the force of lies to achieve a particular aim.

It’s worth noting that in the recently concluded elections, Obi managed to secure over 6 million votes, landing him in the third position, after President Tinubu and the second-placed candidate.

This recent commentary from Soyinka adds a fresh layer to the post-election narratives and analyses, suggesting that while there might be disagreements and tensions, there’s always room for objective evaluation and acknowledgement of genuine efforts.
